Abu Dhabi: The Al Khalidiya, airport and Bani Yas parks will be brought under a restructuring project by the Abu Dhabi municipality to bring them in line with the city's urban development and population growth.

The civic body has currently undertaken a study on the initial engineering designs of a project to improve facilities. A municipality spokesperson said that the maintenance of parks would include toilets, water and electricity extensions, games, and routine maintenance of other facilities.

Additionally, the project would also look at improving and nursing trees, plantation, and greenery while ensuring these facilities are readily operational and meet the highest safety standards.

The project — still in the engineering design phase — is set to roll out by the second half of 2010, and is expected to be completed within two years.

It also includes repavement of internal roads and walkways within the parks, providing suitable and convenient seats. A designated family area fitted with services would provide privacy and the freedom to indulge in various sports and other activities.

The work would also include erection of sunshades throughout the parks, and provision of playgrounds fitted with world-class security which would allow people to practice all sorts of sports and leisure activities in a safe and fully monitored environment.
