Dubai: A new exhibition on the ‘Scientific Miracles of the Holy Quran’ is being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre until Monday.
Located at Zabeel Hall, it is part of the 13th edition of the annual Ramadan Forum, which also ends Monday.
A dozen illustrated and computer animated posters quote verses in the Quran – revealed more than 1,400 ago – showing how they are linked to discoveries in modern science.
One poster shows how the Quran speaks on many occasions about the Earth’s rotation, orbit and roundness – not the favoured view a millennium ago.
“At a time when the belief dominated that the earth is still and all other heavenly bodies revolve around it, the Quran clarified that all the heavenly bodies are running their due course,” including the sun, which itself is going around in orbit.
Another illustration shows that mountains are referred to as “pegs” in the Quran, which make the ground more stable. The poster includes a cross section of a mountain showing how deep its underground structure runs.
“Modern earth sciences have proven that mountains have deep roots below ground; like pegs, which can reach several times their elevation above the surface of the ground.”
Moiz, a student from India, said the exhibition was a “good way to draw people to the Quran. It shows you how knowledgeable and miraculous these facts are.”
The forum is organised by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and held under the patronage of Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation.
