Dubai: A cyclist is on a world mission hoping to peddle his simple message of peace.

Lok Bandhu Karki, 37, from Nepal, who is currently in Dubai, claims he has toured 97 countries on a bicycle since 2004 and hopes to cover 56 more by 2017 just to spread goodwill. “No, I am not looking for fame or money. I just want to promote peace and universal brotherhood,” he said as he rode through Downtown Dubai on April 20.

Karki says his tour is a small step towards creating a global community free of ill-will and aggression. “We can make a difference in a small way. We can begin by making the community we live in free of thefts and crime. We can ensure there is no discrimination against anyone. At the larger level, we can say no to corruption, bribery, bombs and guns.” He said he has covered a lot of Africa, Latin America and Asia on his cycle. “I sometimes use the ferry, ship or plane to reach a destination, but try to cover as much as I can on road on the cycle.”

Karki, who arrived in the UAE on April 9, said he plans to stay on for three weeks, before heading to Oman.
