Abu Dhabi: Two segments on Salam Street will be closed soon as part of phase one of road upgrade, Abu Dhabi Municipality announced on Tuesday.

Last week, the municipality had announced partial closure of street number 31, which links Salam Street and Muroor Road, for the same project.

The initial phase of Salam Street upgrade involves closing several parts of Salam Street and introducing a traffic diversion system, said a statement from the municipality.

Phase 1 involves closing Salam Street from Corniche Hospital Intersection No 56 up to Intersection No 9, leading to Abu Dhabi Mall as well as Mina Street from Intersection No 12 in Salam Street towards Bayed Port until Intersection 41 near Al Capital Hotel. A senior official told Gulf News that dates of closure will be announced later.

To avoid any inconvenience due to the partial closure of Street Number 31, municipality had advised motorists to take Street Number 29. Motorists coming from Maqta and Musaffah Road have been advised to take alternative routes: through Airport Road and Khaleej Al Arabi to reach the Corniche.

Salam Street Project will pave the way to a major transformation and will make possible the construction of a highway with a series of tunnels and junctions. Upon completion of the project, motorists will be able to travel through Salam Street without any traffic signals from Shaikh Zayed Bridge until the Mina Zayed area. In effect, this will ensure a much smoother traffic flow in this arterial route.
