Abu Dhabi: General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Tuesday joined members of the public in various sports activities at the Yas Marina Circuit.

The activities, which include track, field and cycling, are part of the ‘Train on the Yas Marina Circuit’ programme organised every Tuesday.

On arriving, Shaikh Mohammad spoke with organisers and athletes and stressed the importance of such events, which promote and encourage a healthy lifestyle.

Shaikh Mohammad then completed two laps around the cycling track which spans 5.5km.

“This is a very special event to participate in. I see around 2,000 people here. Some of them are cycling, others are running, but the important thing is that everyone is happy,” said Shaikh Mohammad after completing the track.

Shaikh Mohammad said that all forms of sports promote a healthier lifestyle, in addition to preventing chronic diseases. He expressed hope that more people would take up such activities.

Athletes participating in the programme expressed their delight at meeting Shaikh Mohammad and added that his involvement brought excitement and joy to participants.

‘Train on the Yas Marina Circuit’ takes place every Tuesday from 6pm to 9pm and provides the public with the convenience of engaging in activities such as track and cycling without being exposed to traffic hazards or risks. Women wishing to participate in the programme can do so on Wednesday, which is designated as Women’s Day.

Shaikh Mohammad reaffirmed that sports is more important than ever, especially in modern times.

He said that work, responsibilities and other routines should not distract people from being active on a daily basis.

Shaikh Mohammad expressed his happiness in participating in such activities with people of various ages and ethnicities and said that the high number of participants is a source of both joy and optimism.

Shaikh Mohammad was accompanied by Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor, and other shaikhs and senior officials.
