Dubai: Modhesh World will celebrate its 15th edition this year with a line-up of family fun, featuring internationally renowned entertainment characters and a variety of interactive activities designed to give families a memorable summer holiday.

Modhesh World 2014 will open in phases from Thursday at the Dubai World Trade Centre and will run until September 8.

Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), and the organisers of Modhesh World, is partnering with top international character licensors to bring some of the world’s most popular family entertainment concepts to Modhesh World.

“Having successfully organised festivals and celebrations for almost two decades, DFRE has acquired a deep understanding of what families enjoy most, and a visit to Modhesh World happens to be one of their favourite choices in the summer,” said Laila Mohammad Suhail, chief executive of DFRE.

“This has helped us continuously develop Modhesh World year on year, with a great line-up of activities and convenient services ensuring a truly fun environment for families and children. With its range of world-class entertainment, we expect Modhesh World 2014 to set the excitement and tone for the rest of Dubai’s summer season, as it gets ready to welcome visitors from around the world to its star-studded 15th anniversary celebrations and offer them an endless summer of family fun,” she said.

From June 12, children and teenagers can enjoy all the fun at the fair, with rides such as Carousel, Chair-O-Plane and Crazy Wave – as well as kiddie bungee jumping, bouncy castle-type inflatables, and arcade and video games.

Visitors can also learn more about Emirati culture and traditions at the Heritage Zone.

The following week, from June 19, Modhesh World will open up further to fun activities for all ages, such as the WWE non-contact wrestling experience, Hello Kitty and Friends around the World, the Lego/Duplo Zone, the Laser Quest laser-tag game, and the ice-themed Winter Wonderland and Little Stars.

For the Eid festivities, Modhesh World will host the world premieres of interactive experiences featuring the Angry Birds Universe and the Transformers.

The opening of Modhesh World will simultaneously launch DFRE’s annual summer calendar to further enhance Dubai’s position as a year-round family tourism destination. In addition to Modhesh World, the other key summer festivals and special occasions organised by DFRE are Ramadan in Dubai from June 29 to July 27, showcasing Islamic culture, Emirati traditions and hospitality. Eid in Dubai, from July 28 to 1 August 1, will hold a grand celebration for Eid Al Fitr that will involve people from all communities, and the family summer extravaganza — Dubai Summer Surprises — from August 2 to September 5.
