Dubai: Water coming out of a manhole with cables running underneath is causing concern among residents and office-goers at a building in International City.

"A manhole behind our building has been overflowing with water for two weeks now, but it continues to be unattended," said Jacki Williams, who works at an office on the ground floor of building V23, Russia Cluster.

"Mosquitoes have started breeding in the stagnant water that has flooded the car park. It's a health risk," she said.

Another woman in the same building said: "The etisalat cables underneath are submerged in water. I wonder how long our phone lines will work." She said she complained to the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), but was asked to contact Dubai Municipality, which in turn informed her that it was the responsibility of Nakheel.

Not too positive

The woman, who has now complained to Nakheel, said: "I am waiting for someone to act." She said her experience with Nakheel in resolving of maintenance problems was not too positive.

"Dewa said the water is not from a burst pipe but clean water from underground, which is causing problems in all of International City. But something is not right. It needs investigation," she added.
