Dubai: Taliban shooting survivor Malala Yousafzai will visit the UAE in February to thank supporters here.

The schoolgirl is making a good recovery in a UK hospital and is keen to thank supporters here. Pakistani Ambassador, Jamil Khan confirmed her visit at a tribute held to Malala at the Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday night.

The announcement came as Khan gave a speech expressing his support for Malala and the importance of women empowerment in Pakistan.

“The message of peace resonates from personalities like Malala who become institutions,” Khan said. He described Malala as a “star” and “source of inspiration.”

A number of young Pakistani girls from schools across Abu Dhabi were also present at the event to pay tribute to Malala and give a short speech.

After Malala’s UAE visit in February she is expected to then travel to Makkah for ‘Omra’.

The event at the embassy also paid tribute to Namira Salim, the first Pakistani female to go to the North Pole, South Pole and first Asian female to skydive from Mount Everest.

Salim was present at the tribute and received an honourary gift from the ambassador.
