Sharjah: Prominent singers Maher Zain and Mesut Kurtis, will perform at An Evening of Inspiration, a charity concert which aims at introducing youth to disability issues and emphasising the importance of voluntarily work.
The concert is being organised on April 21 at University City Hall by Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services in collaboration with the American University of Sharjah (AUS).
Shaikha Jameela Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Vice President of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Director General of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), said: "We [SCHS] emphasise the constructive and responsible partnership with various educational institutions to improve society as a whole without distinguishing between its members. We aspire, through this evening to deliver a common message that does not contradict with the content being presented, which aims ultimately at creating happiness no matter what is the abilities of people, weather disabled or non-disabled."
Heba Al Hamrany, a member of the concert's organising committee, said both the artists have agreed to perform at the concert for free because they believe in SCHS's mission and vision for people with disabilities.
More than 20 students from the AUS helped market the concert's tickets through various outlets such as schools and shopping centres, said Moza Al Shehhi, Deputy Director of American University for Student Affairs. She said the students worked two shifts in order to sell as many tickets as possible and that one student was responsible for selling tickets in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain during the weekend.
Zain, a Lebanese Swedish, who had a career as a music producer in both the Swedish and US industries. His debut album was Thank You Allah, with 13 songs and two bonus tracks was released in 2009. The album received 8 Platinum awards from Warner Music Malaysia as the highest selling album of 2010 and in 2011, the album also earned a double platinum award from Sony Music Indonesia.
Mesut Kurits, a Macedonian, was born and raised in a Muslim family. He performed nasheeds with groups in the local mosques and conferences. He later continued to study at an Islamic college in Skopje that allowed him to go to the UK to study for a degree in Human Sciences with Islamic Studies.
