Port-au-Prince: Haitian President Rene Preval has hailed the efforts of UAE President in providing emergency aid to the victims of earthquake in his country.
During a meeting with the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) delegation, Preval thanked President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The Haitian president said that accurate figures on the number of victims are not available so far. He urged international humanitarian organisations to quickly coordinate assistance priorities.
The RCA delegation is currently on an inspection tour in Haiti to assess relief requirements. They discussed prospects for cooperation between the two sides with regard to relief operations and immediate government requirements.
A number of dietary needs, rationing and other humanitarian issues were also discussed. Meanwhile, a third plane carrying emergency relief supplies sent by RCA has landed in the Dominican Republic for distribution among the Haitian quake victims.
