Iraqis in UAE to vote from Tuesday
The Independent Electoral Commission of Iraq has called on expatriate Iraqis living in the UAE to participate in the general elections to elect representatives of the National Assembly, due to take place from Tuesday to Thursday.
Dubai: The Independent Electoral Commission of Iraq has called on expatriate Iraqis living in the UAE to participate in the general elections to elect representatives of the National Assembly, due to take place from Tuesday to Thursday.
The commission asked Iraqis to approach polling stations in Abu Dhabi and Dubai to register their names for the voting.
Iraqis are required to present their documents proving their Iraqi citizenship and to have their names registered to be able to vote for their country's elections.
Polling stations in Abu Dhabi and Dubai will open from 7am to 8pm on December 13, 14 and 15.
The commission requires Iraqis to present their personal documents to prove they are Iraqis.
Iraqis must present at least one document proving their Iraqi nationality at polling stations, to be able to cast their vote.
Documents proving the Iraqi citizenship include a birth certificate that proves the voter was born in Iraq or an Iraqi passport, whether old or a new one proving the voter or his father is Iraqi. The document must have a new personal photograph.
The required documents also include Iraqi identity card, military pension identity, family registration card, Iraqi citizenship certificate, Iraqi passport, military service book, a marriage contract from an Iraqi court, an academic certificate issued from an official Iraqi university and property ownership registration.
The commission will also accept documents issued from foreign countries.
The documents include an Iraqi passport, personal identity card, driving licence, residency card, refugee documents issued from the Higher Commission for Refugee Affairs, refuge documents issued from the hosting countries and documents concerning political asylum applicants.
Iraqis must present a registration receipt from the previous elections along with identity card and a new photo. Registration and voting will be done at the same time.
Polling stations in Abu Dhabi are situated in Zayed Sports City - Airport Road (the same location of the previous elections).
Polling stations in Dubai are located in the Global Village Parking 1 on the Emirates Road.
