Abu Dhabi: The Interior ministries of UAE and Russia inked an operational plan detailing means to combat crime as well as other areas of cooperation between the two countries, the ministry said in a statement to the press.
The operational plan comes as a follow up to the agreement signed in September last year during the visit of former Russian President Vladimir Putin to the UAE. The agreement signed last year between the interior ministers of the two nations were related to crime prevention, counterterrorism, prevention of organized crimes, money laundering and other forms of dangerous crimes.
The plan was signed at the ministry on Wednesday by Major General Saif Al Shaafar, the Undersecretary of the Interior ministry and Nikolai Oftishinikov, Deputy Interior Minister of Russia.
Apart from cooperating in preventing all forms of crimes, the bilateral agreement stipulates protecting the law and order and guaranteeing human rights and freedom. This includes exchange of information about terrorist organizations and entities as well as their schemes, plans and financing, new type of drugs, illegal smuggling of arms and ammunition, explosives and radioactive weapons, weapons of mass destruction and their manufacturing technology.
Both the counties would work together in monitoring, identifying and foiled planned crimes affecting the safety and security of the society such as illegal trade of arms and ammunitions, smuggling of poisonous and radioactive materials, human trafficking, dugs, IT related crimes, smuggling of vehicles, artefacts and antiques, infringement of copyright laws, fake currencies etc.
