The infant, Lujain, is to receive expert medical care after Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Authority, issued orders to the effect.
Lujain is now being treated at Emirates World Mobile Humanitarian Hospital in Mafraq City, Gulf News has learnt. The hospital is located to the north of Jordan, close to the Syrian border.
Over the past few weeks, Lujain’s parents have tried desperately to find a suitable medical facility to have her potentially fatal disease treated. The high expenses of the bone marrow transplant however proved to be a hurdle for them.
On learning of her case, Shaikh Hamdan offered to pay for her treatment and issued directives to the UAE embassy in Amman. Bone marrow for the operation will be donated by one of Lujain’s parents.
Ahmad Al Mazroui, secretary-general of the UAE Red Crescent Authority, told Gulf News that Lujain had already begun to receive medication. “She will be shifted tomorrow to the care of a specialist hospital in Amman, and if the required medical resources for the surgery are available, the transplant will be undertaken there. Otherwise, she will be transferred to an appropriate facility in the UAE or elsewhere,” he said.
