Dubai/Abu Dhabi: The national flag of India was unfurled at the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Indian Consulate and Indian High School in Dubai.

Welcoming Indian expatriates and the pupils, Anurag Bhushan, Consul General of India, read out the speech of the Indian President, Pranab Mukherjee.

Pupils of the Indian High School beautifully projected how far India has come as a nation and how much they have achieved over 65 years, since the formation of its constitution.

India’s stable economic growth, after the global slowdown, is a positive sign, T.P Seetharam, the Indian Ambassador to the UAE, said. He added: “India’s stable economic growth at around 5 per cent in recent years [despite an economic slowdown] and a strong democratic system are some of the important factors to highlight on the joyous occasion of Indian Republic Day.”

Ashok Kumar, CEO of Indian High School, Dubai, said in his speech: “I am proud of our Indian roots and this is the best platform for us, as an institution to instil patriotic values in our Indian pupils. We carry India in our hearts. Our freedom fighters and forefathers have worked very hard to help India be where it is today. It has been a long journey for a country like India, since 1950.”
