Sharjah: Hundreds of workshops, activities, and plays await children at the 33rd International Book Fair in November to develop their love of the written word at a young age.

The Children’s Programme at the 33rd Sharjah International Book Fair has expanded to include 242 workshops, two plays, and dozens of interactive sessions.

Of the 480-plus activities to be run from November 5 to 15, many will cater to young minds to encourage them to become lifelong readers. One session will tackle this in-depth with parents from November 8 to 11 from 6.10pm to 7.10pm. The session will include tips for parents on why they should read to their kids, when to start reading to them, what to read to them right from birth, and how to do so. It also discusses how to select books for kids at different age levels, the techniques of reading to kids, and how to introduce short Arabic poems to children.

A puppet theatre will also be available where children can be entertained while learning. “I’m the Narrator”, “Sand-painting”, “Looking at Learning”, “Reading in the Digital Age”, “Storytelling, “Creative Writing”, ‘Little Journalist”, “Children’s Library” and “My Marine Notebook” make up some of the workshops and fun activities in store for children this year.

“Jad in Four Seasons” is another stage show filled with direct scientific experiments, dance, and music. “My mobile Theatre” is a funny way of bringing children to books, involving them in role-playing throughout.
