Glory beckons finalists of Gulf News Blockbusters
The finals of Gulf News' Blockbusters promotion take place this weekend with over 100 competitors dreaming of glory.

Dubai: The finals of Gulf News' Blockbusters promotion take place this weekend with over 100 competitors dreaming of glory.
Huge crowds are expected to attend the event's culmination as 104 adults and youngsters battle it out for dozens of fantastic prizes.
The quarter-finals begin at 2pm today at the Centrepoint Theatre within Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre at Mall of the Emirates.
The semi-finals and finals take place at the same time and venue tomorrow. Entry to the event is only by invitation.
The quarter-finals begin today with the juniors' singles at approximately 2:10pm followed by the juniors' doubles at 3pm.
The seniors' singles commence at 4pm and the seniors' teams are scheduled to get underway at 5pm. The adults' teams begin at 6:15pm and finally the adults' singles start at 7:15pm. It is the same order of play for the semi-finals and finals tomorrow.
A special Champions Challenge match will also take place tomororw whereby four individual winners of past Gulf News Blockbusters will form a team and take on the winner of the adults' team category in the ultimate showdown of speed and knowledge.
Christine Stewart, news presenter on Gulf News Radio Two, will take on the quizmaster role for some of this weekend's finals.
She said: "I think it will be a great occasion; a fitting climax to a very exciting competition. I also think the audience have a key part to play and I encourage them to create a superb atmosphere by cheering loudly for their loved ones.
"It will be very exciting and the tension will be almost unbearable at times. However, I would urge the crowd to remain quiet during play and then go crazy after the answer has been given."
Prizes
The event is being presented by Plug-Ins Electronics and the prizes are courtesy Toshiba.
First prize in the respective categories are as follows: Adults singles - a Qosmio G40 Notebook PC; Adults' teams - a Satellite A300 Notebook PC; Seniors' singles - a Satellite A300 Notebook PC; Seniors' teams - a 32" Regza LCD TV; Juniors' singles - a Toshiba Gigashot A40 Movie Camera; Juniors' doubles - a portable DVD player.
Duleep George, Executive Director of Marketing and Sales at Al Nisr Group, said: "We are nearing the end of a very successful revival of Gulf News Blockbusters. It has been very heartening to see the response, particularly from people playing the game for the first time.
"We are thankful to our main sponsor Al Futtaim Electronics for their support and also to everyone else involved with the event."
Exactly 832 individuals have participated in Gulf News Blockbusters over the course of the promotion; a fourth of them are quarter-finalists playing today. However, only the most knowledgeable contestants will emerge as the first winners of the event since its revival.
