Kuwait: The leaders of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states on Wednesday reaffirmed the right of the UAE over the three islands, the Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa, occupied by Iran.

According to the final communique issued at the end of the summit, the territorial waters, airspace, continental shelf and exclusive economic zone of the three islands are an integral part of the UAE.

It also called on Iran for the consideration of all peaceful means to restore the right of the UAE on the islands, as reaching a solution for the issue of the three islands would contribute to the strengthening of security and stability in the region.

The GCC also urged Iran to respond to the efforts of the UAE to resolve the issue through direct negotiations or recourse to the International Court of Justice and demanded fundamental commitment from Iran to establish good neighbourly relations, mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs.
