Suspect leads police to co-accused after being caught in the act
Ras Al Khaimah:
A gang of four men has been accused of carrying out a string of robberies in Ras Al Khaimah. The suspects allegedly stole cash and valuables from 60 shops.
The case came before The Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court on Monday, a court official told Gulf News.
One of the suspects was arrested while he was stealing from a shop. Police suspected he was part of a gang and, on interrogation, the 20-year-old admitted to being involved in other crimes and led police to his partners.
The four accused, all Arab nationals in the 19-22 age group were produced in court on Monday.
Presiding Judge Mohammad Al Fasfos set August 2 as the date to hear the testimony of the shop owners.
The case dates back to May 23, when the gang was arrested by police for committing a series of burglaries on more than 60 outlets.
Major Hamad Ali, head of the Investigation and Criminal Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police told Gulf News that police swung into action after receiving a number of complaints from shop owners.
Police set up a trap to arrest the gang after receiving a tip-off from a person who was suspected to be a gang member, Major Ali said.
