From Ajman to Dubai for a cuppa

Gulf News reader Syed Muddasir Al Deen, a 39-year-old Indian expatriate and resident of Ajman, is willing to drive to another city and sit through endless traffic jams for his perfect cuppa.

Dubai: Driving 30km for a cup of tea? There are some who would go to those lengths.

Gulf News reader Syed Muddasir Al Deen, a 39-year-old Indian expatriate and resident of Ajman, is willing to drive to another city and sit through endless traffic jams for his perfect cuppa.

His destination - Modern Coffee Shop, in Hor Al Anz area, Dubai.

He said: "I used to live in the same building for almost ten years and got hooked on their 'saada chai' or milk tea. Even though I have moved to Ajman, I go back to keep the memories alive."

Every weekend, Muddasir Al Deen meets up with his friends at the shop to discuss the week's happenings.

With several customers waiting for their cup of tea, Muddasir Al Deen and his friends have to occasionally double park their vehicles on the main road and await their turn.

He said: "I think it is the best and most refreshing tea in Dubai."

I have the same habit too. A friend of mine recently scared me when he exclaimed that some tea shops might be adding something in the tea to make their customers addicted and hence forcing them to always come back. But I think we must accept that some tea shops are really professionals hence customer loyalty.

After recently moving to Dubai, i always look forward to catching up every Tuesday in jumeriah with my girl friends for a cup of Peppermint Tea, by Newby Teas of London. Cant get that type of Tea back in Australia.

Indeed the modern coffee shop is brilliant in hor Al Anz, reminds me of my childhood and teen days, when we used to hang out for a cuppa. Although I also think that the Mamzar cafeteria in Mamzar is giving a good stiff competition to Hor Al Anz as their tea is good too. Wish we had a cafeteria like that in London, always prefer their tea than the ones in commercialised coffee shops

well thats very true, there are many such tea shops in Dubai. 1. karamah, hamdan coloney, al hara cafeteria (Disco Chai) 2. mamzar, right behind Al-malah (Zafraani Chai) Thank you.

I USED TO STAY IN SHARJAH AND MY WORK IN DUBAI.DURING THE WEEKENDS MY FRIENDS COME TO VISIT ME IN MY HOUSE AND THEN THEY ASK ME TO TAKE TO A PLACE IN MIRGAB NEAR THE SEA TO TAKE A CUP OF KARAK SPECIAL.TEA.ALOT OF PEOPLE AND BIG PERSONALITIES WERE COMING FOR THIS SPECIAL KARAK TEA.I RELLY MISS IT AND MISS ALL MY FRIENDS AND MEMEORIES I LEFT WITH ME IN SHARJAH.
