Dubai: A forum on peace-building and fostering cultural understanding will be held in Dubai next week, with speakers including British parliamentarians addressing the topic "Make Peace the New World Order."

Organised by the World Forum, under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Industry, the event is aimed at "promoting world peace" according to organisers.

Speakers will include MP John Battle, prime ministerial envoy on interfaith issues; Lord Richard Harries, member of the House of Lords; Conservative MP Simon Burns; and Lord Ahmad of Rotherham, member of the House of Lords. Former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Butto is also expected to attend.

Forum Director Javed Malek told Gulf News that its main focus is to "promote peace and understanding."

Dialogue

"In light of the prevailing situation particularly in the Middle East, it is important to promote better understanding," he said. "As such, the World Forum will keep organising such events, to highlight the need to maintain dialogue particularly between the West and the Muslim world. We hope that such events will promote better understanding."

The invitation-only event will take place at 7.30pm on April 15 at the Al Habtoor Grand Hotel in Dubai. For further information see www.theworldforum.com or contact 04-3911515.
