Abu Dhabi: Fruit and vegetable sellers in Al Mina will be serving customers into the small hours of the night, following a decision by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City to keep the market open between midnight and 6am during Ramadan.

The extra night-time hours at Al Mina Fruits and Vegetables Market have been introduced to ease the pressure on shoppers during Ramadan, Khalifa Mohammad Al Rumaithi, director of public health at the municipality, said in a statement sent on Tuesday.

“Sellers will also be better able to cater to the increased demand during Ramadan,” Al Rumaithi added.

At the same time, the municipality will continue to conduct stringent inspections on shops to ensure that the quality of produce on offer is maintained. As usual, the market premises will also be cleaned twice a week in order to maintain health and safety standards.

Municipal authorities also conduct regular meetings with wholesalers to ensure that there are no obstacles to an uninterrupted supply of produce to the market, the municipal statement added.

For Ramadan, the municipality has also developed a plan to ensure high levels of hygiene at the market, including the disposal of waste and the control of pests.
