Ras Al Khaimah: The RAK Municipality announced on Tuesday that the experimental phase of a key project dealing with the naming and numbering of the areas and streets will be concluded in March.

Some of the street names have been changed as per the wishes of the residents of the areas. The experimental phase has been implemented in the areas of Khuzzam, Southern Al Dhaid, Northern Al Dhaid, Al Rafa'a and Al Jazera Al Hamra.

Dr Mohammad Rashid Bulhamam, the Deputy Director of the RAK Municipality for Technical Affairs, said that the committee in charge of the project has received the feedback of residents from these areas and their comments have been carefully studied. Measures have been taken based on their feedback.

A meeting between members of the committee and the residents of the area were held to discuss issues raised by the residents.

The project covered areas which have advanced planning and design and densely populated areas.

First phase

Dr Bulhamam said that the first phase will be completed in line with the timetable set for the project which is planned to cover the entire emirate in the next two years.

Within the time frame, all buildings, departments and houses will be numbered and all streets will be given new names.

Hundreds of names for streets have been listed for the committee to choose from. Suggestions from residents will also be taken into consideration.

He explained that the emirate has been divided into sectors which have been further been divided into areas.

This will be of great benefit to courier companies, civil defence, restaurants, tourist companies, the police and the municipality.

The project, he said, is also of great importance as it will help create an e-map to guide tourists and show economic destinations.
