The sacking of the Al Nasr coach Rene Exbrayat was expected due to the poor form of the team in the last matches.

The glamour team won only one match in their last four outings, including a humilating defeat at home when Al Ain crushed them 5-0 before bowing out of the President's Cup at the handas of Al Ittihad of Kalba in the pre-quarterfinals.

The defeat which, of course, was the last straw that broke the back of the camel was against lowly Al Khaleej, which made the irritated Al Nasr supporters put the pressure on the coach and asked the board to sack him.

The Nasr supporters began criticising the French coach from last season itself when Nasr finished fourth in the league after topping the standings in Round One.

The team suddenly tumbled in the second round and lost many points through defeats and drew matches with weak sides. To add to Exbrayat's woes, Al Nasr was defeated in the President's Cup pre-quarters by second division club Al Khaleej.

In the Super Cup, they were eleminated by Al Wahda and went out of the season without a catch.

It seems that Exbrayat didn't learn from last season's mistakes. After a well prepared one month training camp in Italy and France, Al Nasr showed a poor standard at the beginning of the current season.

A major grouse against the coach was that he didn't select good professionals following the episode of Ghanaian player Lamptey, who was carrying a niggling injury.

Exbrayat stayed 18 months with Al Nasr, during which the team played 47 official matches, (league, President's Cup and Super Cup) won 21, drew 16 and lost 10 matches. The team failed to win any trophy during Exbrayat's tenure.
