Emirates Mobile Hospital to be launched in three African countries

The Emirates Mobile Hospital, the world’s first civilian field hospital, will be launched in three African countries as part of the first phase, chief of the humanitarian medical initiative announced on Monday.

Abu Dhabi: The Emirates Mobile Hospital, the world's first civilian field hospital, will be launched in three African countries as part of the first phase, chief of the humanitarian medical initiative announced on Monday.

Dr Adel Al Shamri, Executive Director of the Zayed Charity Initiative, which is managing the project, said in the current period the hospital would be commissioned in Morocco, Eritrea and Egypt.

The launch will be made under a well-studied plan that caters for the needs of these countries over three years. The hospital will be launched in three countries every year, he added, following the first joint meeting with officials from Abu Dhabi Police's Medical Services Directorate.

Dr Al Shameri appreciated efforts being made by Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, for provision of medical and logistic support for the ambitious medical project.

The project will highlight the UAE's major role on international humanitarian services and as a leader in reaching out to underprivileged population and those in need across the world irrespective of their race or faith, he said.

Brigadier Salim Al Junabi, Director of Abu Dhabi Police's Medical Services Directorate, said the meeting aimed to identify the requirements the directorate could offer to the project from doctors, nursing staff and equipment so as to enable the hospital deliver its services to needy patients.
