Abu Dhabi: The Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) has developed plans to meet the rush of people needing to register for the ID card, a spokesman for the authority said on Tuesday.

"A tent equipped with 20 registration devices will be set up from Wednesday at the Abu Dhabi Traffic Department to facilitate signing up for the ID card, which is made mandatory for access to services such as vehicle registration and renewal," said Abdul Aziz Al Muammari, director of the public relations at Eida.

Al Muammari added all measures will be taken to facilitate registering for the ID card and handle the queues that began to build up at the registration centres ever since the new rule came into effect on Sunday.

Receipt

He said people who sign up for the card can produce the receipt to complete their applications at the traffic department.

"Buses will transport applicants from registration centres packed by crowds to other centres with less numbers of applicants," Al Muammari said.

He added more staff will be deployed to centres to meet the rush. Applications submitted to the various governmental departments and banks across the country will shortly be rejected if the applicant does not have an ID card, according to Eida higher committee deputy head Dr Ali Al Khouri.
