Dubai: A seminar on halal food will be held in Dubai as part of the Dubai International Food Safety Conference (DIFSC) on November 18-19.
Ameenah Mohammad, head of DIFSC’s scientific committee, said the seminar was in line with the launch of a strategic plan to develop the Islamic economy sector by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
“This project should start with creating a firm legislative infrastructure that includes all specifications and procedures related to halal food,” Ameenah said.
“The second orientation of this plan is to make Dubai the main hub for the food and halal products industries as well as a trusted name in its adoption.
“This requires creating a local network of facilities and logistic services to produce and develop these products, export, re export and build up a chain of best standards in the field.”
Ameenah, who is also the director of Dubai Municipality’s accreditation department and the head of the DIFSC organising committee, added that Dubai’s strengths can be used to create an international centre for halal food accreditation.
She noted that the basic hurdle in halal food accreditation is the consolidation of specifications and procedures on both theoretical and practical levels. The DIFSC organising committee has invited global experts in order to reach a unified vision on these procedures, specifications and their implementation.
Ameenah said the seminar will include speakers from the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology, the Calibration and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries, and representatives of organisations operating in the production, manufacture and trade of halal food.
