Dubai: A Dubai-based school nurse has completed an epic 10 marathons in 10 days.

Jane Beere, originally from England, ran from Muscat to Dubai — a distance of 422km, while her husband Malcolm provided emotional support by driving alongside her the whole journey. A crowd of around 100 friends, family and colleagues cheered her across the finish line at JESS Arabian Ranches.

The 47 year old has so far raised over Dh45,000 for two charities; the JESS Ranches Vietnam Project and the Nyumbani Orphanages in Kenya, a country where she spent part of her childhood.

Jane, who works at Jebel Ali School, said: "It was a great adventure and my husband and I both really enjoyed it. It was not as bad as I expected. It is actually worse when you stop running as your legs start to hurt more.

"I thought it up about six months ago and then managed to talk my husband into it. I have lived in Dubai for 13 years and it feels like home; I wanted to do something in this region and something different that nobody had done before.

"We were incredibly lucky because our biggest worries were potential injuries or something happening to the car. The wind was horrible going through the border and that was a very hilly part of the journey, which made it pretty difficult.

"The police were also fantastic and we were not stopped at any point."

Jane started her epic journey from Muscat's Intercontinental Hotel on March 26 and then proceeded to run a half marathon each morning and each afternoon for ten consecutive days. She crossed the finish line at JESS Arabian Ranches at approximately 6pm on Sunday.

She added: "The Arabic secretary at my school translated all my information leaflets into Arabic so as we went along my husband passed them out to people, particularly in Oman where people were very curious. We passed through a lot of villages and we had some incredible experiences. My husband was asked to have lunch with the bus driver and people invited us into their homes and gave us food.

"At the start of the journey I remarked to my husband that Salalah was only 1,200 kilometres away and he just looked at me and said ‘no way'!"
