- The Port Saeed Plaza Park in Deira, to be opened to the public shortly, will have shaded walking tracks besides open areas to stage events and games.
Dubai: The Dubai Municipality's Port Saeed Plaza project, a public park, is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Spread over 25,000 square metres, the park boasts shaded walking tracks, seats and grounds that can be used for various types of open-air events and games.
Hussain Nasser Lootah, director-general of Dubai Municipality, said the Port Saeed Park will provide an ideal place for social interaction, activities, comfort and fun.
"We considered the climate change and global environmental situations, aiming for the reduction of environmental pollution, gas emissions and savings in energy consumption. The municipality applied highest international standards for buildings and green cities, to preserve our natural resources and environment. The green roofs save 25 per cent of the power. Therefore, the idea of green roofs and heat insulation plants has been implemented in most of our projects, residential parks, and squares," he said.
"Port Saeed Park also incorporated criteria in which people can enjoy open parks with facilities made out of recycled materials."
The Dubai Municipality has used innovative alternative solar energy systems, in addition to LED technology, so that lighting needs are met efficiently.
The park project was approved three years ago to beautify the Port Saeed Area.
