Dubai: Dubai Police have developed a new monitoring drone in a bid to put an end to disturbances at sporting events held at big stadiums, police said on Monday.
Major General Mohammad Eid Al Mansouri, director of the General Department of Protective Security and Emergency at Dubai Police, said that Dubai Police have succeeded in developing new drones that are capable of monitoring football spectators and major crowds.
Major General Al Mansouri added that the drone was designed and successfully tested by Major Maher Bin Haider of the police’s Emergency Department.
He said the drone can stay afloat for one hour and is capable of taking accurate images while simultaneously transmitting its feed to the operations room, adding the drone will be tested for the first time during the final of the Etisalat Pro-League game between Al Jazira Club and Ajman Club, which is scheduled to take place in Dubai.
Major General Al Mansouri said the move follows a recent incident involving a fan who attacked a referee during a football game in Dubai.
Brigadier Ahmad Khalfan Al Mansouri, director of the Emergency Department, said the drone can capture clear images of crowds during sporting events, thus preempting any misconduct and putting an end to incidents of stadium violence.
