Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, attended the graduation ceremony of the 20th batch of student cadets and postgraduate students at the Dubai Police Academy yesterday (Wednesday).
A total of 139 cadets graduated from the Academy in addition to ostgraduate students. A number of police officers who hold doctoral degrees were honoured.
The police academy is celebrating 25 years of its establishment.
Shaikh Mohammad congratulated the graduates on their achievement, and urged them to be more dedicated and exert more efforts to reach the summit of their career.
“You now stand before the doors of a new level. You have to work hard with dedication and always adopt a positive attitude to achieve your objectives and serve the nation and its people,” said Shaikh Mohammad.
The Vice-President honoured the top six graduates and congratulated them.He called on the graduates to be ready to discharge their duties with high efficiency, and continue more academic and practical training.
Present at the ceremony were His Highness Shaikh Saud Bin Rashid Al Mualla. Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Umm Al Quwain, Lt Gen Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and other senior Armed Forces and police officials. Dr Ali Hamouda, the dean of Dubai Police Academy, said the Academy is celebrating 25 years since its establishment and now the 20th batch of graduate and post graduates are receiving their certificates.
He referred to the moral and material support of Shaikh Mohammad to the academy, making it a beacon of education and training, similar to other prestigious academies in the world.
He said the academy is moving to e-learning in addition to including human rights as a subject at the academy.
“We will teach human rights in English and Arabic as it is approved by the ministry of higher education,” said Dr Hamouda.
He said teaching human rights at the police academy as part of the curriculum was suggested by Dubai Police Commander-In-Chief Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Tamim.
Major General Khamis Matter Al Mazeina, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police, thanked all officers and teaching staff of the Academy for their efforts and follow up to train generations of youth equipped with knowledge, faith in Allah and the country, and an unwavering allegiance to the leadership.
The Dubai Police Academy was founded in 1987, and was granted autonomy from the police force as long as it retains some affiliation with Dubai Police General Headquarters. It was formally inaugurated in 1989 in the presence of the late Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. In 1992, degrees offered by the academy were made equal to degrees from universities.
The first class was from 1987 to 1988, and consisted of 51 cadets and 30 full-time students, some of whom were police officers. They graduated in 1991. During the academic year of 1996-1997, students from other Arabic countries such as Yemen and the Palestinian Territories were admitted.
The academy maintains international standards of teaching and employs modern teaching methodology including e-learning. The website was revamped on September 15 to introduce e-learning features.
