Dubai: Dubai Municipality has reopened its Friday Market at the courtyard of Hamriya Central Market in Abu Hail.
"We have resumed activities at the traditional Friday Market this month as it has always been a big hit," said Khalifa Hareb, director of asset management department at the municipality.
He said the market has started receiving Emiratis as well as expatriate traders interested in selling commodities and traditional food varieties.
The market had stopped its activities in summer after the temperature and humidity level had gone up, he said.
Hareb said that the market has three salient features. "It has sections for local, Gulf, Arab and Indian traditional food items. The second is trading of different commodities sold at competitive prices. And the third activity is sale of souvenirs and handicraft items," he said.
He said various organisations also display their products, books, magazines and Quran copies.
The municipality monitors the products sold in the market, especially the food items, to ensure safety of consumers and to prevent over-charging. Fresh fruit and vegetable are also sold at the market at competitive prices.
Hareb invited traders to get stalls at the market as it offers good business activity. "Any one can come and display products in the Friday Market after registering with the municipality," he said.
The market, which will continue until June 31, is open from 3pm to 11pm on Fridays.
