Dubai: Dubai Municipality has set September 10-15 as the final weight count period for participants registered in the ‘Your Child in Gold’ initiative.

The initiative, which began in Ramadan this year, is the second edition of last year’s initiative and has so far attracted more than 28,000 people, including children, who are interested in winning one gram of gold for every kilo of weight they lose.

Fahima Al Amiri, head of the public relations department at the Dubai Municipality, said in a statement on Wednesday that the final weight count will last for six days in preparation of announcing the winners for the second edition of the weight loss programme.

Al Amiri said that in the second phase of the competition, the municipality has been offering free medical care from specialists and various sport programmes to assist participants and help them lose weight.

The free medical tests are being held every Monday and Wednesday from 6pm-9pm at the initial registration locations like Al Safa Park, Zaabeel Park, Barsha Park, and Al Khawaneej and Mamzar Walk.

Al Amiri added that the main goal behind the competition is for all residents to reach an ideal weight and to continue maintaining it.

The top winner will be the one who loses the most weight during the month long programme and will receive one gram of gold for every kilo he or she has lost, and if it was a winning family, they will be getting two grams of gold for every kilo lost by each member of the family.
