Dubai Municipality issued more than 3,800 notices last year for unapproved building alterations
Dubai: The Dubai Municipality issued more than 3,800 notices last year for buildings where alterations were made without necessary approvals and those that destroyed the beauty of surroundings.
Khalid Mohammad Saleh Al Mulla, Director of Buildings Department at Dubai Municipality, said the department would continue monitoring the buildings and ensure that the requirements pertaining to construction are adhered to.
"The owners and tenants need to preserve the buildings as per rules, and not to make changes or additions to buildings, without taking the necessary licences," he said.
Safety
These procedures are to ensure the safety of the changes and additions whether they commensurate with the type and location of the building, in addition to ensuring the implementation of these actions in a safe and secure way to prevent construction accidents.
Al Ahmad Al Abdullah Al Ali, Acting Head of Building Inspection said that the section issued 3,854 notices to offending premises in 2011, which was 55 per cent lesser compared to 2010 mainly as a result of awareness campaigns by the department.
The officials said that there will be no penalties except in case of refusal to take corrective measures on the part of owners or tenants.
