Driver is airlifted to hospital after vehicle overturns near Jebel Ali
A police helicopter airlifted a badly injured truck driver to Rashid Hospital on Thursday after his truck overturned after he unloaded it, police said.
Dubai: A police helicopter airlifted a badly injured truck driver to Rashid Hospital on Thursday after his truck overturned after he unloaded it, police said.
The incident occurred near Jebel Ali and created a traffic jam as curious motorists stopped to watch, commuters said. Police said the truck driver was inside when it overturned.
Meanwhile, police reported more than 200,000 traffic offences in January compared to 139,376 offences during the same period last year.
Brigadier Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Director of Dubai Police's Traffic Department, said the reason behind the increase of traffic offences was the correct distribution of traffic patrols. He said speeding offences caught by radars topped the list of traffic offences with 112,363 offences.
Brigadier Al Zafein pointed out that the department's mission was to maintain road security and achieve the highest level of safety by deterring traffic law offenders.
Other traffic offences reported in January included parking on pavements, parking in prohibited places, reckless driving, not wearing seatbelts, driving with expired registration, jumping red signals, parking in places allocated for people with special needs or ambulances and not leaving enough space between vehicles.
