Dubai: A driver has appealed for Dh17,000 to settle his hospital bill following a brain haemorrhage.

P.M. Shah, 59, said the money can be paid directly to Rashid Hospital in Dubai where he was treated.

The Pakistani father-of-one was hospitalised for a month after suffering the bleeding earlier this year.

He said he has not been able to find work for months and cannot afford to settle the hospital bill.

Shah, who used to work as a driver for a family in Dubai, said the left side of his body was temporarily paralysed by the incident.

He added that he has a valid UAE residence visa, showing copies of his medical records.

“A well-wisher had acted as my guarantor regarding the bill but it looks like we’re going to miss the deadline of settling the amount by October 15,” Shah said.

“The hospital has already waived around Dh1,700. I want to fulfil my obligation but I’m in no position to pay. I’ve been trying hard to find some work but, although I have leads, nothing has been confirmed.”

Shah said he used to earn about Dh2,000 in his previous job.

“I’ve spent whatever earnings I had and my family can’t send me money, they are poor. I don’t have money even for the Metro any more,” he added.

Shah, who is from Rawalpindi city in Pakistan, is married and has one son. He said he came to the UAE in 1975 and worked for Dubai state utility services till 2000, when he returned home. After working odd jobs back in Pakistan, he revisited Dubai in 2013 and found work as a driver.
