Dubai: The strong response to Intersec trade fair and conference from the industry's leading players reflects the increasing focus on security, health, safety, risk prevention and disaster management issues globally.

The event, themed, "Dealing with Disaster: Readiness, Response and Recovery", will be held from January 17 to 19 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre to shed light on previous disasters, emergency situations and crises and the lessons to be learnt from them.

"Disasters cannot be avoided, but they can be anticipated and planned for and their effects can be minimised by proactive disaster-management programmes. Increasing societal awareness about hazards and putting in place effective response systems will go a long way to minimising the loss of life and property," said Major-General Mohammad Ahmad Bin Fahd, Director-General of Dubai Police Academy.

Safeguards

With infrastructural projects coming up at a rapid pace, it is imperative to put in place safeguards, alarm systems, fireproofing measures and disaster prevention methods that meet international standards, said Major-General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Director-General, UAE Civil Defence, who will be speaking on strategic integration between Dubai Civil Defence and private companies during the conference.

Intersec 2010 will, for the first time, present an industry-led approach to problems, with experts driving the discussion and suggesting measures to enhance the workplace environment in the region.

There will be more than 700 exhibitors drawn from as many as 50 countries.
