Abu Dhabi: Nine nominees were awarded the Abu Dhabi Awards 2009 in recognition of their rich contributions to the social welfare and quality of life in Abu Dhabi.

General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Sunday presented the 2009 Abu Dhabi awards to the winners.

The honours were bestowed at the 5th annual Abu Dhabi Awards ceremony at the Emirates Palace where Shaikh Mohammad expressed his pride and happiness for honouring a distinguished elite of Emirati citizens and expatriate residents who made individual initiatives that have had a great impact on the life of others and set a model of dedicated work and limitless giving for others to follow their remarkable acts of goodness.

Sense of community

Shaikh Mohammad said the Abu Dhabi Awards reflect the keenness of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, to honour those people who have contributed to building a greater sense of community and enhancing social development.

He underscored the President's commitment to the Abu Dhabi Awards and expressed gratitude that the awards continue to preserve the legacy of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The 2009 Abu Dhabi Awards recipients are: Mohammad Habroush Al Suwaidi (UAE), Isabelle Pnosami from Mauritius Islands, Ousha Bint Khalifa Al Suwaidi (UAE), the late Hamouda Bin Ali Hamouda (UAE), Manal Mahmoud Hamad (Jordan), Dr Abdul Rahman Hasaneen Makhlouf (UAE), Saleh Al Yaroubi (Oman) Latifa Younus Tabreezi (Turkey) and the late Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Tamimi (UAE).
