Dubai: Fuelling up has been made easy in Dubai with a new scheme that allows drivers to fill up in a breeze and fleet owners to keep track of costs. The fuel management solution has grown in popularity such that thousands of vehicles use it today a few weeks into the launch.
The Vehicle Identification Pass (ViP) service was launched in March 2014 by Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc) and Emirates Petroleum Product Company (Eppco) for commercial users and fleet-owners.
About 10,000 vehicles have registered for the service since the launch.
With the ViP system, all the driver needs to do is put the nozzle in the fuel tank and the two chips do the rest.
Burhan Al Hashemi, Managing Director of Enoc Retail, said this helps fleet managers, as they can view all transactions as soon as they are done.
Enoc Retail has 3,200 companies and organisations that are on its fuel card system and wants them to opt for the ViP service.
ViP enables greater control and monitoring of fuel usage and serves as a hassle-free payment service. Every fuel transaction is linked to an individual vehicle and electronically recorded without the need of any personnel assistance or involvement.
Details of the transaction include the amounts of fuel, type of fuel, price, date and time. They also get a monthly report of all their fleets fuel is superior to the card system, he said, because cards get damaged or lost and with the ViP it is a simpler transaction as there is no need to wait for a fuel attendant. This also eliminates fraud and unauthorized refueling, he noted.
Dubai Police are testing the service with 10 of their vehicles.
Captain Mubarak Saeed Al Ameri, Head of the Vehicle and Spare Parts Purchase Department at the Transport and Rescue Department at Dubai Police said that so far their experience has been great.
“By the end of the year we are looking to fit the system in all of our 3,000 vehicles.”
