Sharjah:

The Sharjah Ruler’s wife has launched a fund-raising campaign in support of Palestinian children.

Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, has launched Salam Ya Seghar’.

The campaign, a Sharjah initiative originally launched five years ago to support Palestinian children, is redoubling its efforts this year in the wake of fresh clashes between Israel and Palestine.

Under the guidance of Shaikha Jawaher, the campaign, conducted in collaboration with Oxfam and Save the Children is aimed at allowing Emirati individuals, businesses, and organisations to aid in raising funds to provide health care, food and basics for Palestinian children in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Noura Al No’man, Director of the Executive Office of Shaikha Jawaher Al Qasimi, said, “Shaikha Jawaher launched the campaign to bring hope to Palestinian children.

“The campaign has implemented many projects and programmes in co-operation with various international and UN organisations with a focus on education and health.

“We launch today’s campaign for children who are in desperate need of our help in order to continue our support for children who deserve to experience the innocence of childhood just like their counterparts in the rest of the world.”

The co-operation between the‘Salam Ya Seghar campaign and the international organisations covers the fields of health and education.

Oxfam is currently pursuing two projects which are “improving the quality of education for schoolchildren in Gaza” and “improving children’s food security in Gaza”.

Meanwhile, ‘’Save the Children’ is currently engaged in a medical treatment project for children with heart disease.

Implementing Shaikha Jawaher’s directives, the Management Office of Salam Ya Seghar Fund has enlisted a legal firm to ensure the legal status of organisations involved in the execution of the campaign’s programmes as well as to verify the cooperation agreements signed with them, to ensure their compliance with UAE and Palestinian law.

The campaign is being implemented within the framework of specific mechanisms to ensure the setting up of humanitarian projects that serve Palestinian children and help reach out to the largest possible number of people in need.
