Abu Dhabi: A father of three suffering from bone marrow cancer is desperately seeking around Dh90,000 to fund a stem cell transplant in India.

Zimbabwean Nelson Tapfumaneyi Pachirera (34), was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (bone marrow cancer) early this year and has to undergo a bone marrow transplant immediately.

“I need help as I can’t afford the transplant,” said Nelson, who works with a private company in Abu Dhabi and earns about Dh5,000 a month.

It’s barely enough to support the family who live in International City, Dubai.

Nelson’s family includes his wife and three daughters aged 11 years and a pair of seven year-old twins.

His treatment started in April and is fast eating into their dwindling savings. “I am currently undergoing infusion therapy. It will continue for another couple of months.

“The doctors have put me on Thalidomide medication which costs Dh1,200 a week. Occasionally some friends get them from India where it costs much less. “Time is running out. I don’t know what will happen to my family if I am gone,” he said.
