Businessman in UAE gets prominent award from Government of India

A prominent Indian businessman in the UAE has been selected by the Government of Indian for a prestigious annual award for overseas Indians.

Abu Dhabi: A prominent Indian businessman in the UAE has been selected by the Government of Indian for a prestigious annual award for overseas Indians.

J.R. Gangaramani, President and Executive Chairman, Al Fara'a Construction, Properties and Industrial Group, has been conferred the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award for his significant contributions in building close links between India and the UAE, said a statement from Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

The award is conferred on Non-Resident Indians and Persons of Indian Origins or on institutions established and run by Non-Resident Indians or Persons of Indian Origin for their significant contribution towards better understanding of India abroad and support to India's interests in a tangible way.

J.R. Gangaramani has brought pride and honour to India through his contribution to the growth and development of the UAE and the welfare of the Indian community, said the embassy.

The award will be presented to Gangaramani by the President of India, Pratibha Patil, at the valedictory function of the 7th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention scheduled to be held in Chennai between January 7 and 9, 2009.
