A book on postage stamps entitled 'Stamped In Memory' was released yesterday by Indian Consul General Asoke Mukerji and the director general of Emirates Post, Abdulla Ibrahim Al Daboos, at the Business and Professional club, which is part of the Indian Sports Club, Dubai.

The collection of stamps which date back to 1909 come from Khalid Ali Al Omaira, a UAE national and a member of the Emirates Philatelic association committee.

The collection focuses on the long trade and commerce relations that the UAE and India hold, from the time of the Trucial States to the present day UAE.

The book is edited by Asoke Mukerji and published by Emirates Printing Press, one of the flagship companies of the Al Shirawi Group.

Mukerji said: "The collection of stamps stands as a tribute to the hard labour put in by Al Omaira in recording the past of his country. The UAE is fortunate enough to have individuals who spend dedicated time in recording the glorious past and linking it to what it is today, a full fledged modern state."

Appreciating the interest taken by the Indian community and especially by the business group, Al Daboos said: "Emirates Post has come a long way from what it used to be 15 years back. The postal services have drastically changed into a more modern and sophisticated service. We are constantly on the road to improve and are always on the lookout to provide better incentives and promotions to the community.

"Our next step is to increase the volume and drop the prices. We are one of the few postal services in the world who make a profit. Last year we made a net profit of Dh86m. We hope to do better this year as well. There are a lot of surprises in store for the business community in general and the public which we intended to announce very shortly."
