Sharjah: An intensive investigation has been launched into the explosion of a cargo ship carrying diesel which caused a huge fire that lasted more than seven hours, sources told Gulf News.
Officials say several crew members are missing but they have been rescued by another vessel, which was spotted in the area at the time.
The explosion took place on Sunday night, 12 miles off the Sharjah coast, but little is known about the boat’s registration or origins as official documents have yet to be obtained.
The Ministry of Environment, in addition with other main authorities concerned, is expected to conduct an investigation at the site to discover if pollution has caused any damage to the marine environment.
