The UAE's No. 1 tennis star Omar Behroozian, scheduled to take part in this year's ATP Dubai Tennis championship, is being sponsored by Siemens Mobile Phones.

"This is a great encouragement for me. This deal will help me improve my game. Tennis is an expensive sport and this support will help me travel more and get enough exposure," Behroozian told Gulf News yesterday.

Behroozian views the sponsorship as a big honour, especially for a company to offer over Dh50,000 to Dh60,000 an year to a tennis player from this region.

Behroozian, who was born in Fujairah in 1982, had dreamed of being a professional tennis player when he first watched the matches at the Dubai Tennis Open nine years ago.

Last year he realised his dream when he represented UAE for the first time in the Dubai Tennis Open tournament. Behroozian has been included in thre main draw this year too.

"I am more relaxed than last year. I have been working hard on my game and I am hopeful of doing well this year," he remarked.

"I have also been encouraged by this deal with Siemens Mobile Phones. I am looking forward to using my Siemens ME45 handset throughout the Championships to keep in touch with my friends and family," he said with a smile.

"I know this is my most important tournament and I will give it my best. I am really looking forward for the ATP event to start," said Behroozian, who started playing tennis from the age of six and has climbed up the ladder at a swift pace.

"We wanted to nurture local talent particularly in the communities in which we operate and we have selected Behroozian, who is the GCC's and UAE's No.1 tennis player.

"Our brand philosophy is to inspire people in their daily lives by a getting a new perspective on every day tasks. Omar is certainly an inspiration to all young people, especially here in the UAE," remarked Shahzad Ahmed, the regional marketing manager at Siemens Mobile Devices in the Middle East.

Behroozian was the main factor behind UAE's promotion in 2001 Asia/Oceania Davis Cup Group.
