Dubai: A young Syrian mother who has been kept at Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital for the past few months after suffering a nervous breakdown, said she longs to go back home to Syria.

The mother of two, who was beaten up by her husband in front of police in Sharjah four months ago, suffered a nervous breakdown and has been at the hospital ever since.

The 27-year-old woman, identified as S.A., told Gulf News she cannot bear to stay at the hospital in Dubai any longer.

"I want to go back home. I want to go back to my family in Syria," S.A. said sobbing.

Painful

S.A. said she wants to be with her two children back home and it is painful for her to stay away. Gulf News who visited S.A. at Al Amal hospital observed that S.A's mental and physical health had deteriorated in the past few months.

Gulf News reported the story in December and her family was contacted who said S.A's relationship with her husband was getting worse every day.

S.A. was seen begging doctors at the hospital to let her go home but doctors said she still needed treatment.S.A. alleged her husband used to beat her regularly which forced her to ask for a divorce at Sharjah Court.

S.A. found a job as a supervisor at the Roads and Transport Authority, was interviewed and offered the position but she was unable to start work as her husband beat her in front of police officials at Al Gharb Police Station in Sharjah. The incident led to her having a nervous breakdown.

Four months ago, the woman was found by passersby roaming the roads and was taken to Kuwaiti Hospital where she was treated for some time. Then she was transferred to Al Amal hospital as her health was deteriorating and she needed psychological support.

Doctors at Al Amal hospital declined to comment on S.A.'s deteriorating condition.

"She is given the necessary treatment at the hospital," a woman doctor said.
