Bangladeshi officials offer help for women and children's shelter
Bangladesh Counsul General Mohammad Abdul Hye and Nasreen Jahan, First Secretary (Labour), recently visited the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC). The meeting was held to collaborate in improving support services to trafficked Bangladeshi citizens in the UAE.

Dubai: Bangladesh Counsul General Mohammad Abdul Hye and Nasreen Jahan, First Secretary (Labour), recently visited the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC). The meeting was held to collaborate in improving support services to trafficked Bangladeshi citizens in the UAE.
Both parties said they were committed to taking serious and immediate action to combat human trafficking, help victims overcome their trauma, and raise awareness on the issue among the different cultures residing in Dubai.
Afra Al Basti, CEO of DFWAC, said: "This visit strengthens our partnership with the Bangladesh Consulate and supports our aim to build local and international partnerships, maintain close coordination with current partners, and ensure holistic and streamlined services to victims of violence."
The Consul General also expressed great interest in supporting the DFWAC by translating and distributing its brochures into Bengali for their citizens and following up on the trafficked victims' issues upon returning to their country.
The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children recently hosted its first workshop, "Domestic Violence and its Association with Gender Identity" for social counsellors and social workers working in schools and universities in Dubai and Sharjah.
It will be conducting various social awareness activities at schools and universities to educate people about violence against women and children and how to stop it.
DFWAC is a humanitarian initiative and the first licensed non-profit shelter in the UAE for women and child victims of domestic violence, abuse, and human trafficking. It was established in July 2007.
