At a glance: Cross-section of UAE-based welfare establishments
Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation. Since its inception in 1992, the Foundation has come to the rescue of the underprivileged within the UAE and beyond. It has religious-themed projects like supporting pilgrims and Muslims in Ramadan, emergency aid relief and educational support initiatives, among others.
Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation. Based in Abu Dhabi, the Foundation has a focus on health and education in the UAE and in many other Muslim countries as well. It assists a wide variety of groups – orphans, widows, martyrs’ families, the chronically ill, and others.
Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment. Initially launched in 1997, it is mandated to assist needy families in the UAE and overseas. It has seasonal programmes such as assistance in Ramadan, as well as emergency relief projects.
Al Maktoum Foundation. Established in 1997 under the royal patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance. It is engaged in various projects in several countries, particularly in improving education access and quality and promoting intercultural understanding.
Emirates Red Crescent. An Abu Dhabi-based organisation established in the 1980s with support lent by Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It is active in dozens of cash and in-kind support projects in the UAE and scores of countries worldwide.
Dar Al Ber Society. Established in 1978 by a number of merchants in Dubai, by a ministerial resolution. It is considered one of the first in the country. The welfare society is headed by Khalfan Khalifa Al Mazroui, chairman of the association’s board.
Events and activities on Emirati Humanitarian Day
Sharjah Media announces its plan to celebrate Emirati Humanitarian Day by airing a number of special programmes on the occasion. A special report has been prepared by Sharjah TV regarding Shaikh Zayed’s achievements on the humanitarian level and his outstanding projects inside the country and abroad.
Other programmes will also cover the occasion.
Sharjah Radio will also air special programmes on the occasion under the title “This is what Zayed Loves”
Meanwhile, Dubai Public Prosecution will also take part through an iftar project for three days in a number of mosques. Ramadan food aid will also be distributed to needy families.
The Dubai Humanitarian Islamic Foundation has donated Dh40 million to Bait Al Khair on the occasion of Emirati Humanitarian Day.
Dubai Media Inc has prepared a huge number of programmes on the occasion. The Media Inc news centre has prepared a documentary titled “Zayed, the leader of Humanitarianism” which sheds light on the most important milestones of Shaikh Zayed’s march and his accomplishments at the local, Arab, and international levels.
Abu Dhabi-based Emirates ID celebrates the occasion by launching a number of charity activities. In Abu Dhabi, a number of customer service employees visited Ewa’a centre where they met the elderly and children in the centre.
Al Ain Centre also distributed iftar meals and presents to labourers in Mizyad area.
