Al Ain: Experts have started assessing home gardens in order to choose winners from 140 participants in the My Garden is my City competition.

The contest was launched by Al Ain Municipality last month and was open until March 21. Both Emiratis and expatriates have taken part in the contest with their nicely designed and nurtured gardens.

The evaluation of the gardens is the second phase of the contest and the results will be announced later next month. The contest aims to cultivate care among the masses for the internal and external appearances of houses in Al Ain. It will also promote the aesthetic use of trees and flowers in the community, said a spokesperson of the municipality.

Salem Rashid Al Katbi, Executive Director of the northern region's services sector and head of the contest's organising committee, said three winners would be chosen from the contestants and prizes valued at Dh100,000 would be given to them.

Gardens coming at the fourth, fifth, and sixth place will be awarded with special agricultural services by the municipality's strategic partners.

Mohammad Awad Al Jabri, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the competition, said the contest has created a spirit of best practices in the community.

Proper security

The contestants have arranged proper security for their gardens and have been using modern irrigation systems to reduce the consumption of water and electricity.

The municipality's experts inspected the gardens on Sunday noting that the competition has generated enthusiasm among the participants who have been using their resources to decorate their gardens.

The municipality has also received posts from outside Al Ain city in which people have shown their interest in the competition.
