Abu Dhabi: Police are seeking to involve the public in a campaign to curb begging. The Aman Service from Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters calls on the public to counter negative behaviours in response to the Together… Against Begging campaign they have launched during Ramadan.

Another initiative with similar objectives is titled Your Safety and seeks to counter negative behaviours during Eid celebrations, particularly the use and promotion of fireworks.

Major Dr Hassan Juma’a Bin Hamid Al Za’abi, Information and Observation Centre Manager at the Federal Security Information Department, said that all information that the Aman Service receives either by telephone or electronically would be handled with confidentiality.

The Aman Service could be used to report a range of problems involving security, social, or traffic concerns in Arabic, English, and Urdu all day long, he added. People can contact the service by calling the toll-free number 8002626, sending an SMS to 2828, or sending an e-mail to aman@adpolice.gov.ae.

“It is now possible to confidentially pass on same information through the e-services platform that the Ministry of Interior has recently launched on all brands of smartphones,” Major Dr Al Za’abi said. “This platform features direct contact to competent authorities in order to simplify the police services processes to the public by providing them through a ‘single click’ on smart applications after downloading them,” he added.

Once the competent authorities in the police department or other sections receive information from the public, the authorities follow up on the cases, he said. Additionally, the confidential reporting process would help greatly in limiting violations of the law while efficiently bringing to book those involved in crimes.

Clarifying the objective of the Aman Service, Major Dr Al Za’abi said that it would improve the community’s confidence and satisfaction with police performance. The service would lend itself to efforts to achieve excellence and the highest standards of institutional performance and customer satisfaction, he added.

Furthermore, he also called upon the public to help banish negative behaviours by participating in awareness campaigns. He stressed that the efforts of the police cannot be complete without the active participation of the community as it is the first line of defence against negative tendencies.
