Abu Dhabi: Thousands of cars decorated in the colours of the UAE national flag will gather on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi to celebrate the UAE National Day and make a unique attempt to set a new world record on December 2.
The world record bid aims to harness national pride to set a record for the biggest number of decorated cars in one location, said a press release issued on Monday.
The event will be organised in collaboration between The Life and Style Show UAE and Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi).
The organisers anticipate over 3,000 cars will take part in the National Day Union Car Parade with more than 300 featuring in the Guinness World Record attempt. The parade route will start at du Forum and cover more than 3.5 kilometres.
The record bid will set the scene for the Life and Style Show UAE which will run at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) from December 5 to 7 and is expected to be the biggest consumer lifestyle show ever seen in the UAE with over 50,000 visitors anticipated across the three days.
“The UAE is famous for its national day parades across the different emirates and the tremendous amount of national pride on show as thousands of cars are decorated in the colours of the country’s flag,” said Ashley Roberts, Event Director, dmg events Middle East, organisers of Life & Style Show UAE.
“We want to take that fun and excitement to a whole new level and put a global spotlight on Abu Dhabi as we attempt to do something truly unique.”
The world record bid is a highlight of the national day celebrations planned by TCA Abu Dhabi, which will also feature firework displays in Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and the Al Gharbia western region on December 1 and 2.
“Our aim this year is to deliver a programme which will enable all ages, nationalities, residents and visitors to join us in celebrating the heritage, culture and traditions of Abu Dhabi and the UAE over the National Day weekend,” said Faisal Al Shaikh, director, Events Bureau, TCA Abu Dhabi. “Yas Island is ideal for this record bid as it is our entertainment destination and within easy reach of all in Abu Dhabi, only an hour away from Dubai and can also attract people from the other emirates. The parade will take place at 5 pm but we want people to arrive at around 2 pm as we will have a whole activation of family-fun taking place”.
Those wishing to take part in the world record attempt must decorate their car in the UAE colours on at least two sides of their vehicle; either the roof, the bonnet, the entire left or right hand side of the car, and each part of the decorated side of the car must be completely covered.
On the parade day, on arrival at Yas Island, the event organisers will inspect each car and only those complying with the conditions will be selected to participate in the world record attempt
